Gettysburg Visit

We’re back in Gettysburg on the quest to let the monuments tell their stories.  Finding the right light and the right sky is a challenge.  I learn more and more about the battle each time we come here.    Late winter, early spring is the perfect time of year for my images.  I love the way the bare trees add a sense of sadness to the images.  There really aren’t too many days between the melting snow and the budding trees, so you have to shoot what you can.  Each time we come here, different monuments become my focus because of the light.  You have to follow the light.  The image I chose for this post shows one of the best trees this year.  It is located in the area of Pickett’s Charge.  The branches look like nerves, and it has some damage.  It makes me feel like the tree has lived through an experience just like the people who fought here.  The interaction between the trees and the monuments creates an interesting juxtaposition between the living and the dead.  On an unrelated note, I have to give a shout out to Gettysburg Eddie’s and their incredible peanut butter pie.
