Longwood Gardens

There’s a heat wave in Pennsylvania, so I should be inside where it’s nice and cool. Where was I? I spent the day at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. for a photography expedition with Dan’s Camera City! I never visited Longwood Gardens, but am I glad I finally did. They have acres of fantastic outdoor and indoor displays with some of the most gorgeous greenery I’ve ever seen. Sigh, I wish my yard looked like this. I was fascinated with the water lily ponds. They are such delicate flowers. I would post an image of water lilies, except that I was on a quest – for the elusive butterfly shot. I was determined to get my close up of the butterfly in the wildflower garden. I put on my telephoto lens, and waited. There were plenty of butterflies, moving hurriedly between the brightly colored asclepias flowers. They were very happy in the 100 degree sun; while I was not quite so comfortable. It was my chance to get a gorgeous photograph, and I was not going to pass it by just because of a little heat. After about an hour of waiting, and shooting, and waiting, and shooting, I finally succeeded in getting some special images. Here’s one example. Was it worth the wait? If you love flowers (and butterflies), Longwood Gardens is the place to go!
