The Cherry Tree

When I moved into this house, a beautiful cherry tree was blooming in the yard.  There were thousands of tiny pink flowers covering its willowy branches.  It wasn’t the best time in my life, but I considered it a fresh start.  A large section of the tree was dead, and a landscaper had told me that the tree should be removed because it was dying.  Instead of removing the tree, I asked him to cut back the dead part and see what happened.  That was 25 years ago, and the tree is still here.  After I had Elysia, we would sit under the tree every year when it bloomed looking up at the blossoms.  We loved the way the sea of pink looked against the blue sky.  We would blow bubbles, have picnics, and enjoy tea parties.  Once we even wrestled for fun.  I don’t know what we were thinking.  When Jerry came into our lives, he joined us under the tree.  The cherry tree has always meant home to me.  I look forward to it blooming every year.  I hope it never dies.
