Ricketts Glen State Park

Autumn’s colors were calling out to us, so Jerry and I took a drive to Ricketts Glen State Park in the Pocono Mountains.  It was a chilly day, with a cloudy sky.  We stopped for some photos at Hidden Lake, and then we went to Ricketts Glen.  We hiked for hours, and then we came across some kayakers who were headed down the Raymondskill Falls, which is the tallest waterfall in PA, and only 4 feet shorter than Niagara Falls.  We stood on an icy slope of rock and watched for over an hour while these men strategized how to get themselves safely down the falls.  We even heard that one of the men was going to attempt the falls in a canoe, which has never been done.  I couldn’t believe that anyone would be willing to descend these falls in the first place because they are very rocky and steep.   After the suspenseful wait, the kayaker went first, mapping out the route for the others.  He made it safely.  We waited for the canoe.  It was amazing that we watched history being made as the canoe and its paddler made it safely down the falls.  Wow!
