The Children’s Hour

From time to time I photograph plays at the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts. I really enjoy the challenge of capturing the images that convey the most important themes or events in the play. It can be difficult to shoot actors who are constantly moving and speaking. Things happen unexpectedly and there is usually very little light. You shoot a lot, to get just a few great images. This image is from a play by Lillian Hellman called “The Children’s Hour”. Elysia played the role of Mary Tilford, the antagonist. Her character was an evil manipulator with no conscious at all. She played the role quite well. It’s hard for me to see her behave that way, even in a play, because she’s such a lovely young lady.
